MGBio successfully organized a hands-on workshop titled “Coding for Bio” at the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. The workshop aimed to equip biologists with vital computational skills essential for modern genomic data analysis.
With the growing complexity and volume of biological data, computational literacy among biologists is increasingly critical. The workshop bridged this gap by offering practical training in coding languages such as Python and R, enabling participants to handle, visualize, and analyze genomic datasets effectively. Attendees were also introduced to foundational machine learning techniques applicable in bioinformatics, alongside best practices for reproducible research and efficient data management.
Facilitated by Hajra Qayyum, M. Sarfraz Talib, Ayesha Abbas, and Samavi Nasir, the workshop attracted a diverse group of students, researchers, and professionals. The hands-on format, involving real-world biological datasets, allowed participants to immediately apply new coding skills to their research, fostering an interactive and collaborative learning environment.
The event was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Amjad Ali, Tariq Saeed, and Muhammad Ammar.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in MGBio’s commitment to advancing bioinformatics education in Pakistan, with plans to conduct further skill-building workshops for the scientific community.
